National Volunteer Week (21 – 27 May) is a great opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the generous contribution of Australia’s volunteers.
This year’s theme: Give a little. Change a lot, represents the millions of volunteers who make a profound impact on their communities, just by giving a little time.
At EPIC our volunteers embody this theme every day of the year. Through their work, EPIC’s volunteers are paving the way to inclusive communities who welcome and celebrate the many contributions of people with disability.
For Agnes, volunteering with us is an opportunity to help people with disability connect with their community through employment.
“I became a volunteer with EPIC to learn how to empower people with disabilities through employment support, so they can achieve their goals, be independent and confident.”
Through her passion and caring nature, Agnes is ensuring every person who walks through EPIC’s doors is getting the care and support they need.
In conjunction with supporting our job seekers with job searching and employment training, Agnes provides individualised support to our job seekers who come from non-English backgrounds.
“I provide interpretation service for our job seekers who come from a Mandarin or Cantonese background. Being able to help people with a non-English background like myself is very satisfying,” says Agnes.
Our volunteers are integral to the success of our job seekers, so we ensure they are constantly learning and growing within their roles.
“Volunteering with EPIC is very rewarding. The team is very supportive and friendly and I learn valuable skills from them all the time.”
This volunteer week, EPIC would like to share a big thank you to our many volunteers who impact the lives of our job seekers, their families, loved ones and communities every day!
