After being unemployed for almost a year and a half Laurence has found the perfect role working for Rockpool Residential Aged Care in Morayfield.

Laurence has been working as a personal carer for the residents for five months now and could not be happier.

“I love helping the residents with whatever they need. I love putting a smile on their faces, it gives me meaning,” says Laurence.

For Laurence, this role is much more than just a job.

“Having a job means I have a stable routine. When I was unemployed, I felt miserable and bored. Now I feel like I am contributing to society and I’m making a positive change. I am just really passionate about this job,” says Laurence.

Working in the aged care industry wasn’t something that Laurence had thought of. When he first came to EPIC Assist (EPIC) Employment Consultant, Kristy-Lee and Employment Advisor Megan Casey spent time getting to know Laurence’s interests, strengths and employment goals and discovered that the aged care industry could be somewhere he could thrive.

“Laurence has a naturally kind nature and he is well suited to the industry as he is a very caring person,” says Kristy-Lee.

Even though Laurence has found employment Kristy and Megan still stays in contact with him. This is where EPIC is different from other providers, we continue to support job seekers even after they have found work.

“Kristy contacts me every 14 days to check-in. I can tell her when I’m struggling, and she also contacts my workplace on my behalf if I need,” says Laurence.

Laurence is excited about his future and growing his career in the aged care sector.

“I want to stay working in the aged care sector. I’m incredibly passionate about this line of work and want to grow my career in this industry.”

Kristy-Lee has also noticed a big change in Laurence since starting his job.

“Laurence absolutely loves his job and his face lights up every time he talks about work. I’m so pleased with the contributions he has made to his work, and Laurence has consistently maintained a good work ethic,” says Kristy-Lee.

When asked what Laurence would say to anyone thinking of joining EPIC he said:

“If you are unsure what you want to do EPIC are the best people to help guide you and find your perfect fit.”

If like Laurence, you are looking for extra supporting finding long-lasting and meaningful work contact EPIC today.
