Anyone that thinks Down syndrome stands in the way of reaching your goals has obviously never met Jarrod.

Jarrod’s passion for healthy living and fitness has led to his dream job at Anytime Fitness Kallangur, which he began in November 2016.

While trying to find his niche in life, Jarrod studied a horticulture course at TAFE and developed barista skills during a work experience placement with Gloria Jeans.

In July 2016, Jarrod made the first step towards gaining his dream job, when he interviewed with Andrew Krosch, one of our Business Development Managers.

“Jarrod was introduced to me by his Employment Consultant. After an enjoyable discussion I walked away with a perfect picture of what he would love to do for a job,” said Andrew.

It was then Andrew heard that Anytime Fitness was opening a new gym in Kallangur.

The new gym at Lillybrook Shopping Centre is a much larger venue. Andrew used this opportunity for Anytime Fitness to expand their staff to introduce Jarrod and set up work experience.

“I’ve always wanted to work in a gym. I love it here… I like to help people, and l like to make people feel welcome,” Jarrod said.

Jarrod’s infectious personality and the way he holds himself to a “100% standard” at work have made him a valuable asset to the team.

“The gym is Jarrod’s happy place… He’s clearly excited about gym training and working out. He talks to the members about their workouts and how he trains at the gym,” said Kylie Devlin, Anytime Fitness Kallangur Club Manager.

Jarrod works at Anytime Fitness nine hours a week over three days. He is supported by Kylie and his supervisor, Stewart Drewett, who nominates his tasks each day.

Due to the move to a larger venue, Stewart is grateful for Jarrod’s presence, which enables him to share the workload and brings enthusiasm to his work day.

“Jarrod can be cheeky, but he can also be serious. It’s a real pleasure working with him,” Stewart said.
