Breaking down barriers at Moreton Bay awards

Wednesday, 26 July 2023

No barriers to recreation or leisure. That’s the mission that saw Belgravia Leisure take out the EPIC Assist Award for Accessibility and Inclusiveness Excellence at the 2023 Moreton Bay Business and Innovation Awards held on Friday, 7th July.

The Moreton Bay Business & Innovation Awards recognise the contribution of businesses and individuals to Moreton Bay’s economy, and are proudly presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council and Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT).

EPIC has sponsored the Accessibility and Inclusiveness Excellence category since its inception in 2022, with CEO Dean Graham also serving as a judge. EPIC works with many businesses across the Moreton Bay region through our sites at Strathpine, Caboolture, Redcliffe, Kallangur, and Bribie Island.

This award recognises a business within the Moreton Bay Region that are advancing and have a strong commitment to adopting and promoting access and inclusion to improve the lives of people with disability, as part of their day-to-day business operations.

EPIC Operations Manager Jill Nash was proud to present the Accessibility and Inclusiveness Excellence award to Belgravia Leisure for 2023 at the ceremony held at St.Columban’s College in Caboolture.

Belgravia Leisure is the fastest growing leisure management organisation in Australia and has over 30 years’ industry experience. They currently manage 12 venues in Moreton Bay, eleven aquatic centres, and one sports complex.

One of their new strategies includes appointing eight Access and Inclusion Co-ordinators throughout the region. All team members must also undergo sensitivity training which aims to help users understand differences and educate them on the abilities of people with disability.

EPIC Assist congratulates Belgravia Leisure as a worthy winner of the 2023 award.

Congratulations also to finalists Arena21 and Mountain Wine Tours, who are prioritising access and inclusion across their businesses.

Special mention to EPIC employer My Berries, who won the North Harbour Award for Advanced Manufacturing Excellence. EPIC participant Travis was proud to accept the award alongside his employers Allison and Kathryn. My Berries also employs EPIC participant Ben in their business.
