Despite guests preparing for chilly weather, the nation’s capital put on a gorgeous, sunny day for the launch of EPIC Assist’s Canberra office on Friday. Around 70 guests gathered at the National Museum of Australia to welcome the ‘new kids on the block’ and enjoy some lunch and mingling.
The event attracted a broad cross-section of attendees included people with disability and their families, politicians, business representatives, principals, teachers, friends and staff members.
It was a valuable opportunity for EPIC staff to introduce themselves to the local community that they will be working closely with. Many positive connections were made, and the audience expressed their interest in EPIC’s point of difference- the fact that we stay with participants on their journey for as long as we are needed. As EPIC CEO Bill Gamack said, “that is something not necessarily common in our industry, but it’s something that EPIC does and does very well.”
Bill also took the opportunity to address the concerns of many Canberra NDIS participants and their families who have been burnt by previous service providers.
“Most people with disability and their families have been put through the ringer multiple times, prior to the NDIS and now,” said Bill, to nods of agreement.
“Life experience has taught you to tread with caution, and I’m sure you are screaming out for genuine interactions; longing to deal with providers that will walk the talk and actually prove their willingness to put in the hard yards.”
EPIC looks forward to gaining and maintaining the trust of participants, and working hard to find meaningful, sustainable employment for people with disability in Canberra.
