I was delighted to recently accept an invitation to present at an upcoming event called Businesses Driving a Difference, hosted by Advivo and Outsource 2 us, which takes place on 22 August. The premise of the event is gathering together business owners and decision makers who are interested in building Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into their business, but wish to do so in a way that doesn’t involve simply putting their hand in their pocket.
A major reason I jumped at the opportunity to be involved in this event is the fact CSR can be tricky for a business to tackle. While most agree that giving back to the community and making a difference is a priority to their business, it can be difficult to understand the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of implementing lasting initiatives at work. With no clear direction to achieve sustainable CSR, more often than not businesses end up donating money to a cause and moving on.
What many people don’t know is that CSR isn’t all about throwing dollars at a charity or ticking a box; there are many innovative and meaningful ways to make a difference. In addition to my presentation, the audience will hear thoughts from charities Aspirations 4 Kids in Sport, Many Rivers, and inc invest, as well as keynote addresses from Australian cricket legend Ian Healy, and coffee mogul Phil Di Bella.
I’m looking forward to speaking to the audience about how hiring people with disability can work for their business, and having the opportunity to chat to people one on one afterwards. It’s so important that these types of events exist, to encourage the sharing of knowledge and practical tips, while creating a dialogue about the power of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
It would be great if you could make it along to the event, which you can RSVP for here. Further details of the event below:
When: Wednesday 22 August from 6-8pm
Where: Porsche Centre Brisbane, 147 Breakfast Creek Road, Newstead, QLD 4006
Hope to see you there, and if you can’t make it, please feel free to reach out to me any time to chat about integrating diversity and inclusion in your workplace.
